Blues by Blood
One of the most authentic acoustic blues field recordings in decades. Tony Bryant represents four generations of family Georgia Blues going back to the turn of the 20th century. His sound is a time capsule back to the birth of the blues and bottleneck slide when music was a expression of the lives of his people. This recording is not from the past. It’s from the present day and shows how the blues is a living breathing dynamic art form. Not a dead historic record of the past. His old style guitar playing and vocals are direct from the heart the way music should be but rarely is in these modern times. (Cover photo – Margo Newmark Rosenbaum)
Flyin’ Too High
“Chicago” Bob Nelson’s record, “Flyin’ Too High,” featuring David Maxwell on piano with “Monster” Mike Welch on guitar is the first release in ten years for the man that Muddy Waters nicknamed. With an extensive live performance resume including John Lee Hooker and Johnny Shines, Nelson’s rejuvenated style is steeped in the “post-war” Blues with a semi-modern sound. Maxwell, who also produced the CD, is on top of the ivories along with “Monster” Mike Welch and Troy Gonyea tasty blues guitar licks. “Flyin’ Too High” contains 14 tracks with a mix of Nelson penned originals and not your run of the mill covers. Deep, smoky and sometimes humorous vocals with top shelf harmonica by “Chicago” Bob make this disc a great a must have for any fan of the Blues.
